Aquabase Update to Version 8.1.3.366

Aquabase Update to Version 8.1.3.366

The latest 8.1.3.366 update with a number bug fixes and a few new features is now available for download (Aquabase will check for an update on start-up) and will require a password to complete the update process. This password is included in an email to subscribers to the Aquabase Support and Development programme. If Aquabase cannot download the update automatically you can also get it from the Download section of this website. You have to be a registered user to access the download section.

Please read the notes during installation for the latest exciting additions and bug fixes! We are constantly working on improving and fixing Aquabase functionality. Please let me know if you find any bugs and would like to make suggestions for new functions.

SO WHAT’S NEW IN THIS LATEST VERSION?

  1. The chemistry parameters displayed on the reports can now be edited under the Edit|Chemistry|Parameters for Reports menu item. While not all parameters of the 5 chemistry tables may be there they may be added and the units and short descriptions, which appear as headings on the reports, can be edited as well.
  2. The Bottom Navigator on the User-Defined Chemistry entry form has been implemented. It navigates (moving, editing, posting in datasets) the relevant grid which is active (clicked into) or the parameter edits of the User-defined Entry Tabsheet. The Results edit control (number of results) at the bottom right always indicates the number of samples (in middle grid).
  3. The parameter list on the Time-dependent Chemistry Report Settings form can now be sorted with drag and drop.
  4. There are some 118 new lithology bitmaps to choose from for lithological logs. These were obtained from the USGS Federal Geographic Data Committee (Doc. No. FGDC-STD-013-2006) in SVG format and converted to bitmaps. These are generally bigger than the previous bitmaps and have a lot more detail in terms of pixel colours. Therefore the generation of the lithological logs may take slightly longer than with the previously built-in bitmaps as each pixel is changed to the relevant colour from the lithology (as in database) with the relevant Hue, Saturation and Lightness (Value). These may work or not work for each situation and one needs to experiment with the patterns to achieve the best presentation on the charts and reports. Please refer to the USGS_Swatches_reference.pdf document in the “Bitmaps” folder under your installation.

AND WHAT HAS BEEN FIXED?

  1. Some parameters, which are not measured in mg/l could not be extracted from the database in the correct format to show up on the time-dependent chemistry report. This applied to e.g. micro-biological parameters. This has been fixed.
  2. The time-dependent chemistry report summary did not work as expected as it took the default -1 stored vale into account when calculating the Minimum and Average. This is now resolved. (The summary does not contain limits like ‘<‘ and ‘>’, but rather just shows the lowest value).
  3. The Old Aquabase Import did not check for certain field names in the old and new Aquabase tables to match them up, e.g. LIMIT (old) and LIMITS (new) or COMMENT (old) and COMMENTS (new). These changes had to be made as certain old field names are actually SQL language statements and can cause problems when used as field names. This should now be working as expected.
  4. A few smaller bug fixes and optimisations.
